Use: Disinfectant and antiseptics have a fairly broad spectrum of bacteriostatic and bactericidal effects and are effective against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Hand disinfection, skin disinfection, rinse the wound.
Usage and dosage: Hibiclens is used as an antibacterial agent for superficial wounds, skin cleansing agents, skin preparation before surgery, and when used to wash hands, and as a hand-washing agent for medical personnel. It contains 4% of chlorhexidine dextrose and is formulated with a matrix of soapy water. Hibistat is a bactericidal hand cleaner; its clear, colorless liquid contains 0.5% (w/w) chlorhexidine gluconate in 70% isopropyl alcohol plus a lubricant. Peridex is used to prevent intraoral infections in patients with compromised immunity (Ferretti, et al., 1987) and to treat gingivitis and periodontal disease (Grossman et al., 1986). It can only be obtained after prescription and is a mouthwash with 0.12% chlorhexidine.
