The exact antihypertensive effect was achieved within 2 weeks of treatment, and the maximum effect was achieved after 4 weeks. When the antihypertensive effect is unsatisfactory, the daily dose can be increased to 160 mg, or a diuretic can be added. Patients with renal insufficiency (precautions for severe renal failure) and patients with non-biliary and non-cholestatic liver dysfunction do not need to adjust the dose. Valsartan can be combined with other antihypertensive drugs.
What is Valsartan?
Valsartan (Diovan) is mainly used for treatment of high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, and to increase the chances of living longer after a heart attack. It is an angiotensin II receptor antagonist (commonly called an ARB, or angiotensin receptor blocker), that is selective for the type I (AT1) angiotensin receptor.
